Film – Sweeny Todd

Christmas loot was good this year. I asked for and got cell phone, web camera and “North and South” DVD. The first two were really for my family more than me. Chris has been bugging me to get a cell phone from before I got pregnant. My dad has been particularly vocal in encouraging me to get one because he loves texting, so I got the only plan available that will let me text Eastern Europe. Ironically enough, T-Mobile should be able to receive my messages but my dad didn’t get a single one though I can get his messages without a problem. I can text my sister who is on another network and then she tells dad I’ve replied. We’re going to look into this, hopefully it is just a matter of settings. The web camera I got so my parents can see their grandchild as he grows. “North and South” is all for me.

I also got Elizabeth Hay’s “Late Nights on Air” which is the talk of the town right now due to some award and “Icefields” by Thomas Wharton which is one of the Canada Reads books. So far, the queues at the library for the Canada Reads books are enormous so it looks like this will be the only one I might get a chance to read before the program starts in February.

I also got ski tickets which we used a few days ago. Snowboarding was great even though I am a crummy snowboarder and it took me three runs to get back into it. By fifth run I was falling over tired. Overall I had fun and I hope to get out more this year.

Meah and Yeah

I was really looking forward to Dan and Maria’s party tonight even if we were just going for a couple of hours. However, Trevor has been borderline cranky today and only had two very short naps so we were relieved that he fell asleep at 7:30. But that means no party for me. Duh!

We have some champagne in the fridge and we’ll just have to snuggle up and enjoy our first New Year as parents being responsible parents.

Happy New Year to all!

Happy Trevor

Film – Atonement

I got a new cell phone. I am still figuring it out – answering machine is not set up yet, though I am starting to build up my mp3 collection. I’ve been trying to send photos and I got one sent to Luisa, but she had to go to a web page to see it rather than just receiving it on her phone. Also, I suspect that photos might be more expensive than messages which is too bad – photo taken at the right moment can tell so much. Here are some photos from today.

We tried to take one with Dan, but Trevor was getting cranky. I guess we will just have to get Dan to photo-shop himself in one of these pictures.

Our Christmas dinner went really well. I bought turkey too large for anyone’s good, but Chris baked it to perfection on first try. My mom arrived the day before Christmas and is staying for a week and Chris’ clan got here around 2. They helped finish up the meal so it was a really good team effort. I really enjoyed having the dinner here. Usually we dine and run because we don’t like driving back to Ottawa late, but since we were home, there was no rush and the whole thing lasted much longer than usual.

Group picture (Carol’s at the camera) – Trevor had just woken up which is why he is wearing his pajamas and not his “formal” suit that we bought for taking Christmas pictures in.

I got a cell phone which I am still figuring out how to use. I am not promising that I will carry it around with me, but I will have it with me occasionally. Trevor got his weight worth of Megablocks. He still prefers to chew on our portable phone. He also got a “classic” rotary phone toy that we hope will replace our regular phone in his affections.

Christmas preparations

I am supposed to make six dozen cookies for my mom&baby cookie exchange tomorrow. I am very nervous about this so I will make a new type and an old type to fall back on in case the new ones are awful.

The inside of my house is decorated. I put a wreath on the front door but didn’t put any lights outside. This turned out to be a good idea since we’re getting the shingles replaced on the top floor of my house right now. When it is all done, the spanking new shingles will shine so bright in the moonlight, I won’t need lights.

I haven’t sent out my cards yet, I really have to get going with this. We’re doing the Christmas lunch this year, but I haven’t started worrying about that yet. I guess I should order a turkey…

I am so happy about the snow. It paralyzed the city and broke Chris’ car, but when I went to see the shingles from the front yard, I fell in thigh deep and it was great.
