Zigzag mitts

mitts

In last few weeks I finished a par of mitts and I baked a cake. I got credit for courses I took a while ago so now I only have to finish my thesis to graduate. I was very productive at work. I finally got a decent crepe combination, I thought Trevor to make coffee.

We’re going on a mini vacation this weekend and I can’t wait!

An itsy-bitsy break

I finished up my paper on Monday two full days before it was due. I then took two days to play with Trevor and go to sleep pretty much as soon as he did. I am starting to feel a bit more relaxed and the continuous slew of Holiday lunches at work is getting me in the festive mood. In fact, I am baking Christmas cookies right now, or I will, as soon as I finish this post.

I am not going to be working on my thesis until January, but I will spend some time getting everything set up. I want to install and configure CVS on my laptop and do a bit of clean up of the design.

Apart form that, I want to set up budget for next year, clean up the house, finish up my Christmas shopping, make my holiday crafts (I am making gift bags this year – goodbye stupid wrapping paper that people just rip and throw away!), bake and freeze a few bread loafs, catch up on reading, figure out how to make food in the slow cooker etc, figure out a new fitness schedule…

This is the first year that I will be working through holidays as my company changed policies. I used to look forward to the break because it forced me to relax right at the time when I needed it the most. I am sort of glad that I have more vacation days as a result of the change, but still feel a bit awkward about working during that time. I am bringing Trev to work on Christmas eve, because that’s the tradition in my department. There will be other kids there whose parents promised me they will entertain him.

No films, I’m studying to be a big egg

The idea behind using films as my titles is to force myself to update blog regularly. I generally go to see a movie every two weeks or so which is a good blog updating tempo as well. Of course, I was stupidly busy doing the work/mom/school shtick this semester I haven’t gone to a movie since the time we were in Vermont. I have started thinking about going to the movies again. That is a start.

I am almost done with my course, I just have to rewrite this paper. I will have to spend two or three nights on it, but I have a good idea of what I am doing. And yes, if you have taken the time to read the paper, it is a draft, it will be better when I am done with it.

We just did the basic tree this year, Trevor helped decorate it though.

Finally, just a little thank you to my trusty web master and man-about-the-house for fixing up the hack that crashed my blog last week and updating all of our blogs to the latest version. It looks great!

Film – Hamlet 2

One of the myriad thoughts that went through my head today was “OMG blog!” I have been very negligent with updating both mine and Trev’s blogs. I have been crazy busy and quite stressed out. As usual I have a lot on my plate.

I did manage to go to the Opera on the weekend, so all is not that bad. I am also taking a course this semester. It is an Open Source Development course. The teacher is falling over backwards to make it exciting so I am looking forward to it.

I managed to close down the front garden the weekend before and I just have to do the back now. I will try and do it on the weekend. Trev is being wonderful and tonight he is all mine. I’ll take him to the park if the weather is nice.

Film – Something, something Zohan

I have a tendency to dislike team outings at work because they tend to be awkward. I just came back from my first team outing with my grad school lab dwellers and all awkwardness was done away with by not actually hanging out together. Admittedly, I missed the “picking up the sandwiches” part because I had to get Trev from daycare and ready for the babysitter. Then we drove to the cinema close to Carleton where we met up with everyone only to end up hanging out alone with Chris because everyone watched a different movie. It wasn’t really avoidable because the film that everyone wanted to see was sold out and the rest of the people had seen some subset of the remaining movies. Two of our group were in the same theater as us, but they were sitting two rows away even though I saved them seats. I could have just gone to AMC Kanata with Chris when my mom was in town. That would have saved me $35 in babysitting money and a ride across town in post rush hour traffic. Grumble… Fortunately, Chris and I enjoyed spending time together and watching the movie.

Last weekend Chris, Trev and I went to the Art in the Park. There were a lot of babies in slings which made me think of Trev last summer when I would snuggle him with me. I remember him being really calm, but I doubt that he was. It wasn’t so long ago and yet I feel I have forgotten it all.
