Film – Leap Year and Sherlock Holmes

I am a sucker for romantic comedies, so I was really glad to see this film though it is entirely forgettable. I was going to write more about it, but then I had to go take care of the children, and it has been over a week since I started this post with some profound thoughts I had about rom coms in general and this particular instance of it but it just doesn’t sound as interesting now as it did then. I also went to see Sherlock Holmes yesterday and it was nice too.

Chris brought an article about sleep and crying babies to my attention. It is very true. More so, even when Owen isn’t crying I am listening to the noises. It was like that with Trevor too. In fact, until Trevor was big enough to get out of his bed and walk over and wake me up, I was always listening for him in my sleep.

Even though I am not going to have a good night sleep for another two years, I am really enjoying spending time with my kids. We went to the pool this morning and Trevor loved it. I spent some alone time with Owen in a failed attempt to go to a thesis defense a girl in my lab was doing. Both boys are asleep now and I miss them though I am exhausted.

Film – It’s Complicated

I am getting back into Mom at Home mode. I have gone to a drop-in at the Early Years Center and Playgroup and Stars and Strollers this week. I missed the Story Time at the mall, but that was because I had a doctor’s appointment. I had a Belly Dancing class too, but I don’t know if that counts since this was a kids free event.

I am doing well, but that is because I had help around the house since Owen was born. I do have a mommy brain. I can’t really think of anything other than my kids. Oh right, I did go and check out the store that sells cross-country skiing equipment, but I am not at the point yet where I got anything I am currently missing, so I don’t know if that counts.

Film – The Informant!

I’ve had a very lovely weekend. Trevor went to visit his Grandma in Montreal and Chris and I were left to fend for ourselves. We missed him a lot, but we managed. Saturday was my birthday so Chris took me on out traditional birthday fall foliage tour. We started off in Carp, where we went to the farmer’s market and got some fruits and veggies. We also had some tasty hot cider which suited me very well as the weather is turning chilly and I am still a bit hoarse from my cold.

We then took a scenic ride to Carleton Place where we went to one of my favorite cafes, The Good Food Co. and had a light lunch with more tasty hot cider, this time with a twist of orange and cinnamon. We walked around Carleton Place for a bit and then continued on to Quebec via the ferry. Through scenic Gatineau Park we arrived in Wakefiled where we walked around some more, looked at the steam train and then had lovely dinner at Chez Eric.

On Sunday we run errands and closed down the back yard for the winter. We’re going to get our little boy from Montreal tomorrow. I hear he has been having fun as well.

Film – Harry Potter and The Half Blood Prince

There are 11 weeks left until the baby is due. I am so nervous! We have been thinking about names and so far Owen seems to be the best liked.

When we were thinking up names for Trev, I wanted to give him a Croatian name, but it was just not practical to give a Canadian kid a name no-one can pronounce. I liked the name Trevor because it was very similar to the name Davor, which is the Croatian name I wanted.

For the new kid, I didn’t have any clue until Chris suggested Owen. It is a bit uncommon, which is partially why we like it. On further thought, it sounds like Croatian name Ognjen which, now that I think about it is kind of nice.

Not that my made up equivalents make any difference whatsoever, but it is kind of nice to think that my children’s secret names are Davor and Ognjen.

Film – (500) Days of Summer

I was on my own this week. I missed my two boys terribly. I’ve get the third one to keep me company though. Trev is back today too and he is super cuddly (well, more cuddly than he was before which was not cuddly at all).

I think a week on my own did me good though, despite its utter lack of anything going on. It was nice to just be quiet for a week. I did get some chores done, though not as many as I had hoped.

There is a holiday tomorrow and Chris will be return so we’re back to crazy-go-nuts schedule. I think I am ready for it. Not as if I can not be 😉

Film – Twilight

The only way to see Twilight is in the open air cinema. Why? Because of the ticket salesman who almost overcharged us 40$ because he was too busy trying to pick up the mom of the gaggle of preteen girls she dropped off at the movies. Then there was rustling in the tree right next to us during a very intense forest chase scene because another teenage girl decided to skip the ticket booth entierly and climbed over the tree and bushes to get into the theatre. Special effects are almost useless in such uncontrolled environment – vampires look exactly the same in the sunlight as without it. It is too dark to read the instructions on the Cedevita bottle before drinking it (how was I supposed to know that the dry mix is on the top of the bottle that needs to be unscrewed and then shaken before drinking? – blech!). Then there is a break in the middle of the film to change the reel because the cinema only has one projector. The only resemblance to the regular cinema are the swooning teenage girls.
