If you are unaware, I am helping out with K1’s initiation program hockey this year. IP is TimBits hockey, without the TimBits, so a bunch of 5 & 6 year olds getting their first exposure to being on a hockey team. Daunting! I’ve had a police check, a “Speak out against child abuse” course, and coach training.
7am brings out some kids that are tired and don’t really want to be there. It’s mostly a moving list though, except for one little boy that would move from station to station on the ice, only to sit down against the boards and not participate. Two months this has gone on. This morning, he tried. After practice I was saying goodbye to him and his dad and he started gushing about how much fun he had today, and started showing off to his dad the drills that I had helped him with.
Pretty awesome.
