<tap><tap><tap> Is this thing on?
I have a new story that has almost reached “leap out of my head” proportions. Good timing, since the Clarion Write-A-Thon — a fundraiser for the Clarion Workshops that help foster those SF/F writers that you and I enjoy so much — starts in a few weeks. It’s a six-week write-a-thon that runs concurrently with the workshop with the aim of raising money to help offset the expenses of the students (remember, writing, though noble, generally pays somewhere between jack and schitt (That’s a combo clean rating and Jasper Fforde joke, folks)).
My goal is to get out 15000 words of The World Turned Upside Down out of my head and into my word processor. That’s roughly 350 words a day. Totally doable! My fundraising goal: 5 cents a word. Make it professional-like, eh? I’ve already pledged 0.5 cents a word, so I just need 45 more people to pledge 0.1 cent a word and I’m golden!
Extremely brief elevator pitch for TWTUD: Think The Historical Illuminatus Chronicles mixed with Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell. It sounds awesome in my head!
Thanks, and wish me luck!
